RIP.MIX.BURN.BAM.PFA

The digital art exhibition, RIP.MIX.BURN.BAM.PFA, invites guest artists to “rip, mix, and burn” elements from digital media works in the BAM/PFA's collection. With the permission of the artists, digital files from the complete set of source works, as well as the guest artists' remixes, are available here for the public to download and further remix. In order to take full advantage of the social networking in remix, we ask that guest artists downloading source material here sign in and register their use to complete the circuit. RIP.MIX.BURN.BAM.PFA is a cultural experiment that applies the advantages of digital media and the spirit of open-source generosity to museum permanent collections, planting the seeds of an “open museum.” This experiment suggests that, particularly with digital art, museum collections can be transformed from hidden archives into public playlists-conducted, mixed, and performed by curators, artists, and the public.
